I've lived in Montreal all of my life and in August, moved to Waterloo to attend university. Before my move, I looked into several different ISPs that I could use for Internet access (dorm room Internet is capped), including Bell Sympatico, Velcom, and Teksavvy.

The things I was looking for in my Internet package were the following:

1. Fast Speed
2. Unlimited Bandwidth
3. Reliability
4. No contract
5. All of the above at a low price

The ISPs that seemed to meet the above criteria were Velcom and Teksavvy. Bell was offering everything mentioned at a higher price.


So now it was between Velcom and Teksavvy. I really was willing to go with either of the two, but when I called Velcom to setup an account, they told me it would take a few days to verify if I would be able to get the service in my dorm. I called Teksavvy a few minutes later and had an account setup with them in less than 10 minute minutes.

When I moved into my dorm, I hooked up my SpeedStream 5200 modem that I picked up refurbished for $20 and everything worked perfectly! I was getting speeds of around 4.8Mbps, and sometimes over the 5Mbps advertised speed, which I had never gotten back home in Montreal with Bell Sympatico.

What I was really impressed with was their "no questions asked" unlimited bandwidth package. I checked my bandwidth usage in October and noticed that I was approaching almost 600GB of usage (up and down) in one month (yikes!). I have been very satisfied with Teksavvy and will continue to use them (despite the package's $10 increase, which is not Teksavvy's fault, really) for a very long time.


UPDATE: I'm simply in love with this company. Their customer service is awesome (and the only reason I've had to call them was because of problems with my line, which was Bell's responsibility). I signed up my parents back in Montreal for Teksavvy's unlimited 5Mbit plan and it's working out just fine for them. I've now relocated to Burlington, Ontario for a job and have got Teksavvy here too! Again, just loving it.
